my visit to Stanford University

It was my dream to go to Stanford University. As I always try to follow my supervisor footstep. I started to my journey on 13th of October behind my beloved Nargish at Rome. It was terrible moment in my life to say goodbye to her. I had to do it because I wanted to explore my experience.

I arrived the special Terminal 5, a special terminal for USA flight. Very tight security. After crossing the security, I got into the plan and landed at Philadelphia International Airport. The immigrant officer asked me several question at least 45 min and gave me a seal to my passport to enter the USA. Again flight to San Francisco L. At last I arrived to Stanford Gust house. The Guest house was very nice.

On 14th , I got up from my bed very early and took my breakfast. I came to know that there was very nice shuttle service for Stanford Campus. I got into the Shuttle and got down in front of the Lab. The Lab Secretary gave me the schedule of meeting with Professor and researchers. Meanwhile, I met two visiting fellow from Germany, Austria. First day, I had a wonderful time with them.

Later on, I met with Professor Mark Musen. He was so kind human being and explained me lots of their work. I also showed my work. He appreciated the work. I also met with Natasha Noy (a key person of Protégé tool, bio-medical ontology). She showed me the work of ICAT, a web-based frame work for protégé tool. They have developed this frame work for WHO. I wonder to see their work. It is similar work that we have done. But, our work has been started at FAO since 2005. It shows the importance of our work. It was also wonderful to work and chat with Timothy Redmond.

I got a little change to visit the campus beside my work. It was amazing environment. I wish I could study in here J. Now, I understood why they are different from others. It is a place for study.

URI VS URL

some of my colleagues asked me about the URI Vs URL. I was thinking to make it clear for everbody. Here is my explaination:

URI:
A URI identifies a resource either by location, or a name, or both. More often than not, most of us use URIs that defines a location to a resource. The fact that a URI can identify a resources by both name and location has lead to a lot of the confusion in my opionion. A URI has two specializations known as URL and URN.

URN
A URI identifies a resource by name in a given namespace but not define how the resource maybe obtained. This type of URI is called a URN. You may see URNs used in XML Schema documents to define a namespace, usually using a syntax such as:

URL

A URL is a specialization of URI that defines the network location of a specific resource. Unlike a URN, the URL defines how the resource can be obtained. We use URLs every day in the form of http://damnhandy.com, etc. But a URL doesn’t have to be an HTTP URL, it can be ftp://damnhandy.com, smb://damnhandy.com, etc.

In the last word, we can say that URI is identifier of resource and URL gives us information to obtaine this resource.

if URL present our homepage then each object can be retrieved from the homepage by using the URI ( ex. URL and URI of Ahsan (www.ahsanmorshed.bloger.com and ://ahsanmorshed.blogger/ahsanmorshed )

Image tag Vs Folder

Currently, I have read a lots of article regarding tagging vs. folder debate. One of the research says that young people (17-28) like tagging than keeping it in the folder. One of example is facebook. But, older people(30-more) like to keep it in the folder. It is easier for them. I feel that we are going to be more close throught the internet by each other. I am going for Tagging the pictures.

Doctorate Degree and Workshop at MIMOS

One of the beautiful moment of my life to get my PhD degree on 12th of April 2010 . I was so much tense about my presentation and my degree. I would like to thanks to Mukta and Ashiq for their help and passing time with me during my visit in Trento, Italy. On the 12th april 2010, I went to meet Prof.Fausto Giunchiglia who is my supervisor and guide of my PhD degree. After the meeting, I got confidence about my presentation . I always follow his foot steps in my life. One of the person whom I admire most after my parents. During my Presentation, Pavel , Armando, and Junaid asked me several questions on my thesis. I was a little bit nervous to answer those question but I managed to get out of those questions. Then Prof.Fausto told me and others (who were listening my talk) to leave the room, and he took the decision with reviewers for my degree. After 10 min , Prof. Fausto called me to the room and announce me as Doctorate.

On that moment, I close my eyes and trying to look at my parents face. Also my wife who passed her all boring nights beside with me during my final days of thesis writing.

I did a small party with Bengali students from University of Trento, Trento, Italy and my reviewers (Pavel and Armando).

I got to run to catch the train for Rome. I arrived at Rome at 10 pm.

I went to home at 11 pm from the train statation and my wife was waiting for me at the door. she gave me a big hug and crying for her joy. We talked couple of hours and got at 7 am. I had to go Malaysia for a Project meeting .

I left my wife at home and went to airport with my crying face. It was 11 hours journey to go Malaysia. I took taxi to go the place of golden horse (hotel ). It looked like a place. I saw Johannes and Armando in the lobby. They congratualated me about my degree. Others, also congratualated me. I met couple of new people.

We went to MIMOS toghether (at last I managed to go :)) . I felt so sleepy and drinking several cups of coffee. First day was fantastic with MIMOS people. We back to hotel. I went to bed as soon as possible. . .

My Dream Project "HRDO"

I am extremely happy to lunch my NGO "Hili Rural Development Organization(HRDO)". It was my dream project for a long time to help my people and do something for my country in the structure way. I am just following my father foot steps. He is helping people for a long time. I just feel lucky myself being his son. I do not know how further I can go with this NGO. There are several NGOs in my country. One day, my NGO will be the top of them by the mercy of Allah.

Initially, I am lunching some events for my NGO:

  • to provide IT knowledge in the rural area. Specially to the Farmers by arranging workshops with agricultural specialists.
  • to provide health information by arranging workshops with doctors.
I have just started this project. Soon, new things and thought will come.

Please Cross your fingers for my NGO and my people.
